DAW is the recording program you use in your studio. DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation. Most programs now have the ability to record midi and audio.
When I started recording in my own home studio the Cubase VST I was using was very sophisticated. If I remember correctly every year or so, a new version of Cubase was released (as you can see I have been working with Cubase since 2000), but I never thought of buying the newest version, because I just wanted to know very well what I had.
I have received questions about which is the best program for recording or even which of these programs has better sound (better quality).
What I have to answer is that the best program is the one you have. If you do not learn it very well, you are not going to do your job as you want.
Today I will tell you some ways that will help you appreciate what you have, no matter how simple it is , and make the most of it. Each program gives you so many possibilities that you can record your demo much faster than you do now.
Learn the basic functions

There are some basic functions in your program that you may have not discovered yet. When I say basic functions I do not mean the play record function and copy paste in some parts of a recording.
I suggest you take a piece of paper and a pencil and look for the menu that your program has and experiment with the functions that will help you work faster. For example when writing midi instead of deleting a recording that you do not like , you can select the Midi replace function from the transport panel and so every time you record your new recording will remain. If you select merge again you can add other things to your existing recording.
You can spend some time looking for these features and taking notes so you can be faster and more productive in the next project.
Use the keyboard shortcuts

Very important and very effective. The keyboard shortcuts will help you a lot and will reduce your time in half! In Cubase in the menu-Edit there is the option Key commands, where you can create your own key shortcuts.
Personally, I use the keyboard both in the recordings and in the mixing procedure , so I am more efficient. You can make shortcuts for creating tracks, even bounce and export audio mixdown for your mix.
There are so many ready-made ones that you can also write them down on a piece of paper until you memorize them and have them with you when you work.
Make your own templates
One of the most time consuming things to do every time you start a new project is how to create channels and put the same vst instruments or effects for your audio channels.
What you can do is think about which vst instruments you use in almost every song, how many audio channels you need on average and which plugins you need such as reverb, delay etc.
You can put them in a project and then in the File menu you can select the Save as template submenu. This way you will save the project as a template of your own and every time you start a new project, you will have saved valuable time and you will be ready to record.
Sure there are a lot of details that all programs have, but I'm not talking about you becoming so much of an expert. We are talking about functions that can help you be more productive. If you dedicate time to your DAW, you will become much better on your work ,because you will focus on it alone.
