I have written many times that mixing is a science and it is about balance. We try to bring our channels into balance so that they can coexist and "tie" within the piece.
In today's post we will talk about a plugin that will help you a lot in understanding some frequencies for specific instruments as well as how you can use it in a project.
When I started in my own home studio, I was trying to figure out what to do with frequencies and EQ but I had never used the analyzer. When I used it in a song, then I realized I had to better manage the frequencies in a song.
What is analyzer
Analyzer is a plugin that helps you see all the frequency of your song. Of course in a video it will be much better to understand the analyzer, but I think that a written explanation is a good start.
If you do not have an analyzer I will recommend Voxengo span which is free (you can download it here https://www.voxengo.com/product/span/

So with the analyzer, you can take the following steps to learn more about instrument frequencies.
You set the analyzer in the stereo out of your console.

Press play from the beginning and you observe which frequencies correspond to which instrument, with the graph that the analyzer gives you. that you want.
You can also scroll up with your mouse and 'open' the range of frequencies you want to hear and if you do it down the frequency range becomes smaller.

As you can see in the photo of the analyzer above because there are many harmonics and peaks that you may not want to deal with much of it, then you can change the view of the graph from the analyzer settings and smooth it around smooth oct and so you will have more smooth graph so you can better distinguish your frequencies.
I would advise you to use the analyzer in a reference track (reference song). I have written in detail in a post about the reference track
If you learn to use the reference track in your mixes, it will help you a lot, to improve your technique, because in a very well mixed song you will see the differences with your own media from the analyzer
By pressing Ctrl + left click you can hear the specific area you are. This way you can practice on which frequency is better for each track
I will make a relevant video for the analyzer and we will say more about how you can use it for your mixing.
