One thing that you haven’t think, is a pair of cheap speakers. Just simple computer speakers.In today’s blog post, I am going to explain why you need a pair of cheap speakers in your home studio.
You work in your home studio in two ways. You may have a set of studio monitors, so you can hear everything from this set (recordings and mixes) . The second one is to have a pair of studio headphones.In both cases your ears aren’t just so adjectives and I will tell you why.
Let’s say that you have a set of studio monitors.You have placed them properly and you work entirely from these monitors.You record and mix with these.And you are very pleased with the results. Are you though adjective?
The cheap speakers unhide some mixing mistakes
So , this is where you need a pair of cheap speakers in your home studio. I will tell you why. The cheap speakers ,can tell you about some mistakes that you have done in your mix, and you didn’t even notice.
Cheap speakers don’t have a bass response ,sometimes the highs are almost muted so all you have is a mid-range.This is where you can hear some frequencies that you don’t like. All you have to do is , to set an EQ in your mix buss , cut these frequencies and instantly, you have a better mix
The same thing happens with, studio headphones. Almost all of the headphones are flat ,so you can hear every detail in your mix ,but these cheap speakers will help you learn your headphones better.
Don’t listen only in your home studio monitors
We all have a basic home studio ,and as I told you earlier , we hear all of our projects on our monitors or headphones. We get used of their sound and when we listen to another set of speakers,we are confused and maybe we don’t like what we hear. That's why I suggest , of you should invest a small amount of money in a pair of really cheap speakers and apply them in your home studio gear.
Besides that we all want our songs to be heard correctly from any device.A listener has a cheap pair of speakers ,or his mobile or his laptop. That's why we should compare our songs and test them in different sound sources.
